Course
description
Introduces structured design processes for use in the
development and implementation of business information systems. Includes systems
life cycle and rapid application development methodologies in systems design and
development. Using productivity tools students employ systems analysis and
design in designing and implementing a business information system. Provides
experience in conducting supervised research in IT-Systems Analysis field.
Course
objectives:
The objectives of the course is to review the systems life cycle methodology
and project management; discuss the major steps in systems planning and
development; present the subject of data flow diagrams, system and data models;
give students experience in making research in MIS area, discusses research
tools and practices; give students practice in the process of drafting,
revising, and editing; give experience in writing associated with MIS
major.

Evaluation:
Three
tests- 45%; Final test -
20%; Labs & Assignments – 10%; Research Paper/Project - 15%,
Article Summary – 5%
Letter grade and course work credit: A(100-90), B(80-89), C(70-79), D(60-69), F(below 60)
Tests
and assignments
Three
equally weighed tests will deal with the concepts discussed in class and
developed in the hands-on labs and computer assignments. If you are going to
miss a test, you must contact the instructor prior to the test time for any
special consideration. At the instructor’s discretion, test content and test
results credit percentages following a student’s absence may be adjusted to
compensate for an absence from a regularly scheduled examination. Assignments
are due when class officially starts. Late assignments will be penalized
10 points per class day they are late.
Reading materials
You
are to read each chapter in advance of the class discussion. In addition
for each chapter of the book you will receive selected reading materials
(contemporary magazine articles reflecting textbook material). You are to read
them before the chapter is to be discussed in class. A quiz on the
reading material will be given in the beginning of the class.
Attendance
You are expected to attend class. Failure to do
so will result in your missing material explanation, lab assignments, and the
possibility of a supervised hands-on experience in business web site
development.
