CSD 380: Anatomy and Physiology of Speech

Students will study the anatomy and physiology
of speech production with an emphasis on the
respiratory, laryngeal and articulatory systems
and the processes of respiration, phonation and
articulation. A brief introduction to the
nervous system is presented. The primary focus
of the course is on the mastery of basic
anatomical information and its use in
assessment, diagnosis and treatment of
communication disorders.
The following courses are taught both in Fall and Spring semesters.
CSD 253: Applied Phonetics

Introduction to the International Phonetic
Alphabet system of phonetic analysis, speech
sound production, analysis and transcription of
normal and disordered articulation.
Multi-cultural aspects are included. Fall and
Spring Semesters.
CSD 485: Multicultural Issues
in Communication Disorders
Course information on Blackboard

hours
Investigation of impact of cultural diversity
upon human development, education, communication
skills, family functioning, and social problems
across the life span. Sensitivity to the varying
needs of ethnic groups and the disabled is
stressed. Review of interpersonal skills needed
to relate to persons from diverse cultures is
included. This is a Writing Reinforcement
Course.
CSD 463: Clinical Observation
1 Credit Hour
Provide the student with an initial experience
in observing ongoing speech-therapy services
provided by graduate students. Prerequisites:
CSD 101, 291, 393, and 394.
ED 579 Advanced Clinical Practice in Speech-Language Pathology
1-9 credit hours
Supervised clinical practice, including
diagnostic and treatment procedures with
children and adults exhibiting a variety of
communicative disorders. Students will work in
the Speech and Hearing Center and in one or more
of the off-campus externship facilities with
which the University has a contractual
agreement.
